A Haunted House

A HAUNTED HOUSE
The short story "A Haunted House" is story with meaning,by portraying to us
the treasure of life. When two ghosts are searching through their old house,
looking for their "Treasure", the treasure or meaning is revealed to us. The
joy and love shared between two people is the treasure, the treasure of life.
By using irony and stream of consciousness Virginia Woolf is able to reveal the
meaning of the story. Her style of writing is called "Stream of Consciousness". In this the thoughts and actions of the characters tell us more about their lives. She also uses irony, for example the name of the story may give the idea that the house is infested with evil spirits and it is not a pleasant place to stay but it is the total opposite when you read the story. The house ends up where all the good thins happen. Even the ghost couple help the living couple find the "Treasure" ie the love and joy between people. The irony in the story makes us think that we are about read a trivial ghost story, but instead, gives
us a deeper and more meaningful interpretation of ones life. The story is a total surprise to the readers.
